5 killed in clash over market ownership in Narsingdi

At least 30 people were also injured

Five people, including a woman and a teenager, were killed in a clash between two groups over ownership of a market area in Raipura upazila of Narsingdi. 

At least 30 people were injured in the incident. 

The incident took place in Saidabad village in the early hours of Thursday.

Raipura Upazila Health Officer Khan Nuruddin Mohammad Jahangir confirmed the information around 11am.

The deceased were identified as Diruja Begum, 35, Junaid Miah, 15, Anis Miah, 30, Tofazzel, 30, and Amir Hossain, 70.

Locals said there was a dispute between the Hanif Master Group and Sabmia Group of the same area over the possession of the Sayedabad market in Srinagar for the last two months. 

Due to that conflict, a clash and chase and counter-chase between the two groups continued took place Wednesday morning. 

At night, it turned into a tug-of-war, killing four people. 

Raipura police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shafayet Hossain Polash said: "We have received the news. I am going there with the army. Details will be announced later."
