In Barisal, both city and district police stations are yet to fully resume operations, with only a few essential services available on an emergency basis.
Online general diary (GD) services have been suspended, and police officers are not permitted to leave the stations.
Security concerns have been cited as the primary reason for these restrictions.
A visit to Barisal Kotwali police station under the Metropolitan Police on Thursday revealed a limited presence of just seven to eight police officers, with no service seekers or desk employees in sight.
The station's Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mustafizur Rahman, said: "We cannot go out. There are no instructions to resume full operations. Who will ensure our safety and the security of our weapons?"
OC Mustafizur Rahman said that on Monday at 11:30pm, only one person had come to file a GD, with serial number 181. However, since then, the GD process has been halted due to the server at their Dhaka head office being down.
He added that the station had only processed a handwritten clearance for the postmortem of Abu Zafar, a deceased individual from Pirojpur who died at Barisal SBMCH, as his body was awaiting police clearance.
The OC also disclosed that he had not left the station for the past two days, unable to go home.
He had only gone to the police line at Rupatali on Sunday with weapons before returning to the station, where he has remained since.
"The activities of the police station have not fully started. Out of our 149 staff, only a few of us are here. Who will ensure the security of our weapons or our personnel?" he asked.
Superintendent of Barisal District Police, Wahidul Islam, acknowledged that formal activities have not yet resumed at the police stations in Barishal district but expressed hope that operations would begin in a few days.
