Police on Wednesday filed a new case at Chittagong’s Halishahar police station over the sabotage reported in the district during the nationwide unrest.
In this case, 37 named individuals including 100 to 150 unidentified people have been accused, said Kaiser Hamid, officer-in-charge (OC) of Halishahar police station.
He said that a group of individuals gathered at the Boropol intersection under the police station and attempted to commit sabotage in connection with the recent nationwide unrest. When the police moved to arrest them, the group obstructed law enforcement efforts and attempted to vandalize several vehicles.
Meanwhile, according to police, 735 individuals were arrested in Chittagong city and district from the night of July 16 to Thursday morning. Most of the detainees are BNP-Jamaat supporters.
Kazi Md Tarek Aziz, additional deputy commissioner (Public Relations) of CMP, said that a total of 17 cases have been registered across 16 police stations under the CMP over alleged murders, riots, terrorist activities, and sabotage linked to the nationwide unrest.
In total, 408 people have been apprehended in connection with these cases, including 35 in the past 24 hours.
Chittagong District Additional Superintendent of Police (DSB) Abu Tayeb Md Arif Hossain said that 11 cases have been filed in Chittagong district regarding attacks and vandalism related to the unrest.
A total of 327 people have been arrested in these cases, including 34 in the past 24 hours.
