Agitated students from various educational institutions in Barisal boycotted classes on Sunday to participate in the nationwide protest program, submitting memorandums and staging mass marches demanding quota reforms.
At 11am on Sunday, students from Barisal Polytechnic Institute sat down at Kakoli Intersection, the busiest road, causing a heavy traffic jam across the city. After an hour, the angry students got up and started moving towards the Deputy Commissioner's office.
Students from Govt BM College, Govt Syed Hatim Ali College, and Govt Mahila College brought out a protest march and sat down on the road in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office complex.
Later, they gathered on the road in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office, chanting slogans and holding an agitation rally. After an hour, their delegation submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner.
At 2:30pm, students from Barisal University also submitted a memorandum after their demonstration.
One of the agitated students from BM College, Noyan Sarkar Joy, said that some members of the BCL tried to prevent them from participating in the program. As a result, they had to take different routes from various gates and points at their institutions to join the protest march.
Sahidul Islam, deputy commissioner of Barisal, received the students' memorandum and said that after reviewing it, as directed by higher authorities, it would be forwarded to the concerned department along with their opinion.
