A lift of 250-bed General Hospital in Barguna collapsed suddenly following a technical glitch that created panic among patients and their relatives.
However, no casualty was reported as there was no one inside the lift during the incident.
The accident was reported on Friday evening.
However, the authorities claimed that a mechanical fault caused the breaking of the door of the lift.
The elevator collapsed when it was going from the ground floor to the seventh floor.
According to sources, there are two lifts in the 250-bed General Hospital in Barguna district town.
Most of the times, the operation of elevators remain suspended due to mechanical faults.
Barguna General Hospital supervisor AKM Nazmul Ahsan said that the door of one of the two lifts suddenly collapsed.
“However, as soon as the incident happened, we informed the matter to the public works department which is in charge of supervising the lift. Of the two elevators, one is out of order, but the other is operational.”
On Friday evening someone pressed the button of the elevator to go down from the seventh floor. Later, when the elevator was going up to the sixth floor, it suddenly broke and got stuck on the fifth floor.
However, there was no casualty as no one was in the elevator at that time.
After receiving the information, the members of the fire service came and visited the spot.
Barguna Public Works Department Deputy Assistant Engineer Zakaria Akand said the elevator was not torn apart; the door was broken after moving off the sliding way.
Deputy Assistant Director of Barguna Fire Service and Civil Defense Jahangir Ahmed confirmed that no casualty was reported. The door of an elevator suddenly broke down from the 6th floor.
