825,256 people have been affected by the flood

Continuous rainfall and the influx of upstream water from India's Meghalaya are worsening the flood situation in Sylhet. The water levels in the rivers are also rising above the danger level.

Due to the flood, many people could sacrifice their animals even after buying during Eid-ul-Azha this year in Sylhet. Many have donated them to madrassas and orphanages. Others have taken their animals to shelters instead of sacrificing them.

In this year's flood, residents of Sylhet city and the bordering upazilas of Companiganj, Jaintapur, Gowainghat, and several other upazilas could not sacrifice their animals despite purchasing them.

Mizanur Rahman Mia, the District Livestock Officer of Sylhet, said that 180,000 cows, goats, sheep, and buffaloes were prepared for sacrifice this Eid in Sylhet. However, only 145,906 animals were sacrificed. He noted that many people could not sacrifice their animals due to the flood.

When asked how many people managed to perform the sacrifice and why others couldn't, he said: "We don't have the exact information right now. Last year, over 150,000 animals were sacrificed, but this year it's approximately 145,000."

Additionally, due to the flooding, many people were confined to their home, dampening the eid festivities.

Meanwhile, continuous rainfall and the hilly water flowing from India have submerged 23 wards of Sylhet city and 106 unions of the district. Consequently, 825,256 people have been affected by the flood, with around 50,000 people in Sylhet city being waterlogged.
