Due to excessive rainfall in Sylhet and the influx of water from the upstream hills in India, the water level of the Kushiyara River has risen above the danger level.
The matter was confirmed by the Sylhet Water Development Board (WDB) on Thursday morning.
According to the WDB, as of Thursday morning, the water level at four points of the Kushiyara River was flowing above the danger level.
At 9am on Thursday, the water level at the Amalshid point was 23cm above the danger level, while it was 6 m above at the Sheola point, 71cm above at the Fenchuganj point, and 5cm above at the Sherpur point.
Meanwhile, 45 millimeters of rainfall was recorded in the past 24 hours. In the previous 24 hours, 36.7 millimeters of rainfall was recorded.
Md Abdul Muid, assistant meteorologist at the Sylhet met office, said: "Rainfall may continue in Sylhet for another two days. After that, the weather may normalize.”
