Miscreants allegedly vandalized the akhra (den) of a Baul ascetic in a remote area of Mirpur upazila of Kushtia on Friday night.
Though police inspected the area, no criminals involved with this are yet to be detained.
Baul Nishan Ali and his paternal cousins beat a painter named Rohel Sheikh who allegedly had been delaying in repaying a loan to the cousins on June 6, UNB reported citing local sources.
Locals and police suspected that Rohel and his cohorts vandalized the den at any time of Friday night.
The den is located in the remote area on a canal bank of Ganges-Kobadak Irrigation Project.
The baul defended himself saying that the cousins’ problems are being shifted to him and he hasn’t been involved with this incident.
Md Abdul Khalek, assistant superintendent of police (ASP) of Mirpur circle, who inspected the spot, said that they were looking for the matter to identify who or whoever was involved with the incident.
Exemplary measures will be taken if the authenticity of the attack is found, he said.
Locals said that the akhra was built of wooden planks and it had a tin roof. However, nobody lives there at night.
In this regard, the Chairman Poradaha Union Parishad Farukuzzaman said: "I don't know anything about the attack on Baul's den."
