Five people were arrested in a case filed over a gang rape of a young woman at a shrimp farm in Mongla, Bagerhat.
A close relative of the victim filed a case against seven individuals at Mongla police station on Tuesday night. So far, police have arrested five of the accused.
The arrestees are Ruman Fakir, 25, Rasel Sheikh, 22, Rana Sheikh, 24, Suman Khan, 29, and Mizanur Mosally, 36.
The 22-year-old victim, who lived in the Miapara area of Mongla town, had met Ruman Fakir and Md Rasel Sheikh over the phone around 10-12 days before the incident occurred.
On Monday, Ruman Fakir and Md Rasel Sheikh invited the woman to meet them in front of Mongla Government College. She arrived there at 8pm Following her arrival, Ruman and Rasel forcefully took her away on a motorcycle.
Another accused, Rana Sheikh took the woman to a fish farm where she was blindfolded and gang-raped. After she lost consciousness, the accused left her tied up near Moukhali Bridge around 1am. Later, a motorist named Md Humayun found her and took her to Mongla Upazila Health Complex for treatment.
The victim is currently receiving treatment at the Mongla Upazila Health Complex.
Mongla Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) KM Azizul Islam said that they received a complaint of gang rape at a shrimp farm involving seven individuals, five of them arrested. The case was filed, and all legal procedures are being followed to send the accused to jail through court.
