Elderly man killed in Chittagong elephant attack

An elderly man was killed in an attack by wild elephants in Chandanaish upazila of Chittagong early Monday.

The deceased was identified as Zakir Hossain, 65, son of Abdur Razzak from the Bainjuri area.

The incident took place in Ward No 5, Madhyam Bainjuri area of the Chandanaish Upazila of Chittagong around 7am.

According to local sources, a pair of wild elephant attacked Zakir while he was working in the field early in the morning.

He was fatally crushed by one of the elephants and died on the spot.

In a separate incident, Salah Uddin, 35, was injured by an attack by an elephant while he was on his way to buy bread from a shop.

He sustained serious injuries and was promptly rescued by locals.

Later, he was taken to Chittagong Medical College Hospital.

Chandanaish Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mahmuda Begum distributed Tk20,000 to deceased family and Tk10,000 to injured family.
