Road accidents kill five in Rajshahi

Five people were killed and several others sustained injuries in separate road accidents of the last two days in the district.

Police said the deceased were identified as Rony Sheikh, 24, Raju Ahmed, 20, Shanto Hossain, 20, Fahim Islam, 21, and Azizul Islam, 18.

Aminul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Bagha Police Station, said an accident occurred when a motorbike collided head-on with an auto-rickshaw in Sarakghat area under Bagha upazila of the district around 7.30 pm on Friday, leaving the bike rider and co rider critically injured on the spot.

The wounded were rushed to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) where two of them succumbed to their injuries in the night.

Meanwhile, Azizul Islam sustained injuries when a passenger's bus hit him in Kasiadanga area on Friday noon.

He was immediately rushed to RMCH where the attending doctors declared him dead after a few minutes of admission.

Earlier, Shanto and Fahim met a tragic road accident when their motorbike rammed into a road divider at Budhpara flyover around 3.30 pm on Thursday, said OC of Matihar Police Station Mobarak Parvez.

Shanta succumbed to his injuries at RMCH while Fahim in a private clinic.

Three separate cases were filed with the respective police stations.
