Six dead in Narsingdi road mishaps

Several others injured

At least six people were killed and several others sustained injuries in separate accidents in Narsingdi on Eid day.

In the last accident, a motorbike driver and a pillion rider died, and a third victim was critically injured after the vehicle collided head-on with a bus on Dhaka-Sylhet Highway in Narsingdi’s Dagaria area around 7:30pm on Thursday.

The deceased are Sunny and Shahin, both in their early 20s and hailing from Narayanganj, said Elias Hossain, in-charge of Hotakhola Highway police outpost.  

The other pillion rider named Sayed was sent to Dhaka with severe injuries, he said, adding that the bodies were sent to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital for further procedures.

Earlier, four people were killed and nine others were injured in a head-on collision between a microbus and a cement-laden covered van in Madhabdi area of Narsingdi on Wednesday night. 

The accident took place in front of MMK Dyeing on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway at around 11:30pm on Wednesday.

Narsingdi Sadar Circle Additional Superintendent of Police KM Shahidul Islam Sohag confirmed the incident.

The deceased are Abu Huraira, 9, Meem Akhtar, 20, Mujibur Rahman, 25, and Helal Mia, 32. They were going home from Dhaka by hiring the microbus to celebrate the Eid holiday.

Additional Superintendent of Police KM Shahidul Islam Sohag said that when the microbus reached in front of Madhabdi, MMK dyeing, it collided with a covered van carrying Premier cement coming from the opposite direction.

The microbus overturned, and the child died on the spot.

Locals rescued 12 seriously injured people and took them to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital, he added.

Among the injured, three died on the way to the hospital. 

Resident Medical Officer (RMO) of Narsingdi Sadar Hospital Mahmudul Kabir Basar confirmed the matter. 

Nine injured people were brought to the hospital, and after primary treatment, six seriously injured people were sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in the night. The remaining three are being treated, he added.

Highway police seized the wrecked microbus and covered van.
