  • Alert issued for all vehicle associations
  • KNF warns owners against violating ban
Update : 08 Apr 2024, 01:29 PM

The Kuki-Chin National Front (KNF) has indefinitely banned all types of vehicular traffic in Ruma, Thanchi and Rowangchhari upazilas of Bandarban.

The separatist group’s armed wing, the Kuki-Chin National Army (KNA), announced this ban through a message on social media on Monday morning.

It said starting from 5pm on Monday, all types of vehicular movement are banned indefinitely in the areas of Ruma, Thanchi and Rowangchhari. This alert is for all vehicle associations. Associations and owners of vehicles that violate this ban will be held accountable.

The KNF claimed that the reason for the ban is to protest the disregard for peace talks and opposition to the settlement agreement. In this context, the KNA has expressed its outrage.

Currently, under the guise of combing operations, innocent civilians are being detained and falsely accused and arrested in the name of KNF. In response, a ban on all vehicular traffic has been imposed in the areas of Ruma, Thanchi and Rowangchhari, the group said.

Furthermore, the message said that all KNA armed members are instructed to be on high alert to confront this operation, and its commandos are always ready to counter the ongoing illegal joint forces operation in the mountains. Armed wings have been directed to take appropriate action against those who defy the traffic ban.

On Wednesday, KNF members attacked Sonali Bank and Krishi Bank in Bandarban's Thanchi upazila around 12:30pm and looted Tk15,00,000 from Sonali Bank and Tk2,45,000 from Krishi Bank.

Earlier, the gunmen broke the vault of Sonali Bank in Ruma upazila of Bandarban at around 8:30pm on Tuesday and looted around Tk2 crore.
