Update : 05 Apr 2024, 05:30 PM

The police have allowed motorcycles to use separate lanes on the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Dhaka-Mawa expressway to prevent accidents during Eid travel.

Since the inauguration of the Padma Bridge, motorcycle traffic on this expressway has increased manifold.

Accidents have also occurred numerous times, which is why the police are taking various steps to prevent mishaps before Eid.

About 40km of the expressway and 13km of the Dhaka-Chittagong highway are in Munshiganj.

At least 200 policemen are to be deployed at various points in this section. The police will monitor three-wheelers on the highway.

Along with this, policemen will also ensure that goods-carrying trucks or passenger buses are not stopped anywhere on the road.

Munshiganj Superintendent of Police Mohammad Aslam Khan said the expressway will have a special lane for motorcycles. There will be measures to prevent motorcycles from plying the main lanes of the Dhaka-Mawa Expressway.

“We will have two control rooms on two highways to ensure smooth trips for people. The public can avail any facility by just calling the emergency number,” he said.
