Holidaymakers continued travelling home smoothly via the Dhaka-Mawa Expressway and Padma Bridge ahead of Eid-ul-Azha, with no major traffic congestion reported on Tuesday.
Traffic pressure on the highway, considered the gateway to 21 southern districts, increased slightly in the morning due to the Eid rush. However, passengers said they were travelling without significant suffering or inconvenience.
People began leaving the capital from Sunday night, taking advantage of the long Eid holiday.
Alongside long-route public transport, a large number of private cars and motorcycles were also seen on the expressway.
Passengers said they were able to travel safely and comfortably, although some complained about being charged extra fares by transport operators.
Mawa Traffic Police Officer-in-Charge Ziaur Haider said passengers had been crossing the Padma Bridge without disruption since Tuesday morning.
“To ensure smooth movement on the Padma Bridge, uninterrupted toll collection is being carried out through eight booths,” he said.
He added that two additional lanes had been opened for motorcycles to ease pressure during the Eid journey.
