Train communication with Khulna and other parts of the country has returned to normal seven hours after a collision between an oil train and a cargo train in Ishwardi upazila.

Bangladesh Railway West Zone Manager Shah Sufi Noor Mohammad said rail communication became normal at around 7am on Wednesday.

“A rescue train from the Ishwardi locomotive factory first rescued the freight train. After about an hour, the oil train was rescued,” he said.

A probe committee has been formed to investigate the incident, the manager added.

At about midnight on Tuesday, an oil train stopped at Ishwardi Junction Station on its way to Khulna after unloading oil in Parbatipur. Just At the time of the incident, a freight train loaded with stones stopped at the same station on its way from India to Dhaka.

The freight train collided with the oil train while shunting (taking carriages from one line to another).

Then the engine of the oil train and a carriage of the freight train derailed, halting the rail connection from Ishwardi to Khulna and Dhaka.

However, there were no casualties.

Shah Sufi Noor Mohammad said the train driver, assistant driver and on-duty assistant station master were suspended for negligence.
