  • Bijoy Express train derailed on Sunday afternoon

Railway Minister Zillul Hakim has said train accidents are happening occasionally if anyone is found involved in rail accidents, action will certainly be taken.

He said these on Saturday while inspecting the accident site in Nangalkot’s Tejer Bazar area in Comilla on the Dhaka-Chittagong railway route.

During this time, the minister also said: "We will take necessary steps through the inspection and the report of the investigation committee. With everyone's cooperation, we will work to prevent rail accidents. The local community, sub-district administration, district administration, and law enforcement must be vigilant to see if anyone tries to sabotage by cutting the rail lines.

“One can not come to power by setting fire to trains and killing people. For this reason, BNP is gradually becoming isolated from the people. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has saved the railways from destruction during the tenure of the BNP and alliance government. She has been constructing new railway routes. The lives of passengers are of great value. They (BNP) want to reap benefits by destroying national assets,” he added.

On Sunday afternoon, train communication between Dhaka and Chittagong was suspended as the Jamalpur-bound Bijoy Express train from Chittagong veered off the tracks.

At least 30 people were slightly injured in the derailment, said witnesses.

They were taken to different hospitals for treatment.

According to a primary assessment of the railway authorities, the Bijoy Express train derailed in Comilla after the tracks bent due to a heatwave.
