The district office of the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) has fined a trader Tk2,50,000 for packaging low-quality sugar in the wrapper of a famous brand in Manikganj.

Asaduzzaman Rumel, assistant director of the DNCRP Manikganj district office, conducted the drive in the Dudhbazar area of the district town on Friday afternoon.

According to the source, trader Masud Khan, owner of M/S Al Masud General Store, stocked low-quality Indian sugar for marketing under the brand name Teer.

A total of 25 tons of sugar was stocked for the holy month of Ramadan.

Being tipped off, the district office of the DNCRP conducted the operation and seized 25 tons of sugar in 50 sacks.

Asaduzzaman Rumel said: “The director general of the directorate, AHM Safikuzzaman and Deputy Commissioner Rehena Akhtar, imposed the fine on the trader. The general secretary of district Caab Samchunnabi Tulip and members of Sadar police station cooperated during the operation.”
