Bus services in Narayanganj on Sunday resumed after an 8-hour halt as the authorities conducted an operation against unauthorized vehicles in the city.
The transport owners stopped movement of buses on all routes including Dhaka-Narayanganj from 7am to 3pm.
Narayanganj Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mahmudul Hoque has warned that unauthorized vehicles without route permits will be impounded if they enter Narayanganj.
He announced this while participating in the round table meeting organized to solve civil problems at Narayanganj Press Club on Saturday.
Member of Parliament of Narayanganj-4 Constituency Shamim Osman was present there.
The buses of Bandhan, Ananda, Utsab paribahan services in the Dhaka-Narayanganj route, Bondhu, Badhon paribahan services in the Chittagong-Narayanganj route were seen parked near the counters.
However, few buses of Shital Paribahan and BRTC were seen plying.
District Bus Owners Association Executive Committee President Roshan Ali Sarkar said: “Many of our buses do not have route permits, however others do. As a result, bus service has been suspended since the morning. But we went to the office of the Deputy Commissioner.
“We applied for many vehicle route permits but did not receive them yet.Decision will be made on Monday after a discussion,” he added.
Rabin Ahmed, an employee of a private company, said: “As all the bus services have been suspended, now we need to take CNG-powered auto rickshaws to commute with higher fares.”
“I arrived in Narayanganj by Bandhan bus in the afternoon on my way back home. As the bus service has begun, the suffering has been ended,” he added.
