At least two people were killed and six people were injured on their way to Bishwa Ijtema when a covered van hit an auto-rickshaw at Shilmoon of Tongi in Gazipur on Sunday.
The deceased were identified as Jony, 18, and Sohel, 40, hailing from Shibpur upazila of Narsingdi.
Among the six injured, four have been identified as Zahid Hasan, 18, Iqbal Hossain Bhuiya, 50, Nazrul Islam, 50, and Zisan, 19.
Mostafizur Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Tongi East police station, confirmed the incident.
“Police rescued the injured after getting the information. The injured were rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where two of them were declared dead by the duty doctor,” said OC Mostafizur.
“The injured are currently receiving treatment in the hospital,” he continued.
“Families of the deceased have been informed to collect the bodies,” he added.
