Bangladesh Coast Guard Director General Rear Admiral Mir Ershad Ali on Saturday said that the security force is in a cautious position amid this ongoing tension with Myanmar.

He said: “We prefer friendly relationships over enmity as per the ideology of Bangabandhu. But amid this ongoing tension with Myanmar, we have increased the security and manpower. Patrolling has been tightened on the east coast. We are determined not to compromise our maritime security.”

The Coast Guard director general said these things after paying tribute to the tomb of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in Gopalganj on Saturday.

Regarding the Rohingya infiltration, DG Ershad said: “Push-in, push-back is not a solution to the Rohingya crisis. We need a permanent solution from Myanmar. As per the instructions of the government, we will not give shelter to any other Rohingya. We are always on alert to prevent any further Rohingya infiltration.”

Earlier, the newly appointed Coast Guard Director General Rear Admiral Mir Ershad Ali offered Fatiha and prayed for the salvation of Bangabandu and all the martyrs of August 15.
