Secondary and primary schools have not yet been declared closed in Naogaon though the lowest temperature of the district was recorded at 9.5°C on Sunday morning.
The concerned officials said that they have yet to decide to shut the activities as the temperature rises after 10am.
The lowest temperature was recorded at Badalgachi in Naogaon. Last Saturday, the lowest temperature was recorded at 10°C, said Arman Hossain, an official of Badalgachi local meteorological office.
Being asked over the phone, District Primary Education Officer Md Saiful Islam said: "I have not yet heard from the meteorological office."
District Education Officer MD Lutfar Rahman said over the phone that the lowest temperature was recorded between 6am to 9am.
“After 9am I checked the weather office data and it was 11°C. School starts at 10am, so how can I suspend academic activities,” said the education officer.
The sunlight was not visible till 1pm in the district. The sky remains cloudy. Along with this, a bone-chilling wind is blowing, according to local people.
They also said that the temperature has been fluctuating between 10°C and 11°C for the last few days. In the bone-chilling winter with dense fog and freezing wind, public life has been completely disrupted in the northern district of Naogaon. Everyone, from children to the elderly, has been suffering due to the severe cold.
Meanwhile, primary and secondary schools in the northern district of Rajshahi have been declared closed due to severe cold.
On January 16, DSHE issued a circular saying that the education authorities in any district can close down schools in case the temperature drops below 10°C.
