Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) formed a five-member committee over the ferry that capsized on the Daulatdia-Paturia route in the middle of the Padma River in Paturia of Manikganj early Wednesday.
Kazi Wasif Ahmed, director (technical), BIWTA, Dhaka has been assigned as the convener of the committee, according to a letter signed by BIWTA Chairman AKM Matiur Rahman.
The committee has been asked to investigate the cause of the accident, determine the financial damages, and provide recommendations and opinions in this regard.
They have been directed to submit their report within the next five working days.
The ferry named “Rajanigandha” with pick-up trucks and covered vans sank in the river around 8:30am on Wednesday.
