Ferry services connecting Rajbari’s Daulatdia and Manikganj’s Paturia terminals have restarted after a seven-hour hiatus prompted by low visibility caused by dense fog.
Authorities suspended the services to avoid accidents when the fog density increased around midnight on Monday and resumed them after the fog started to dissipate at about 7am on Tuesday.
Some 200 to 300 vehicles were stuck at the Daulatdia terminal owing to the prolonged suspension, causing suffering to passengers as well as drivers in cold weather.
The Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation’s BIWTC Daulatdia terminal co-manager Alim Daiyan said 13 small and big ferries were transporting vehicles on the route.
