Update : 19 Nov 2023, 06:48 PM

Popular YouTuber Ashraful Hossen Alom, widely known as Hero Alom, is set to participate in the upcoming 12th national parliamentary election.

However, he will not be running as an independent candidate this time. He plans to join a political party ahead of the polls.

The decision to contest from the Bogra-4 seat has been finalized, and there are plans for his participation in the Bogra-6 seat as well, with an official announcement expected in the next two days. Hero Alom shared this information on WhatsApp on Sunday afternoon.

He previously contested the Bogra-4 (Kahalu-Nandigram) constituency as an independent candidate in the 11th national election but was defeated.

Subsequently, BNP MPs resigned from Bogra-4 and Bogra-6 (Sadar) constituencies, leading to vacant seats. Hero Alom participated in the by-elections for these constituencies but faced defeat again, alleging rigging.

When asked if he could be defeated by conspiracy in the upcoming 12th parliamentary election, Hero Alom expressed optimism, adding: “Due to international scrutiny, fair elections may result in giving up 100 seats to independents and other parties, with the remaining 200 seats up for grabs.”

This, according to him, makes it unlikely to be defeated through rigging this time.

Born and raised in Erulia village of Bogra Sadar upazila, Hero Alom initially engaged in a cable network business (dish connection). He entered modelling in 2008 at the age of 23 and gained popularity in the local community by sharing his acting and singing scenes on cable networks.

Despite two unsuccessful attempts in Erulia union parishad elections, his popularity grew.

In 2016, Hero Alom created a Facebook page called "Hero Alom" and began sharing his acting and singing content. Subsequently, he joined YouTube, and his posts gained widespread viral attention.

Although he studied up to class VII, he unsuccessfully sought nomination from the Jatiya Party in Bogra-4 constituency in the 2018 national election.

Later, he contested as an independent candidate with the lion symbol, facing an attack during the election and losing with only 638 votes.
