A cargo vessel named “MV Prince of Ghashiakhali” carrying 800 tons of coal sank in the Pasur River on Friday.
The incident took place at around 9am in the channel of Mongla Port in the Kananagar area under Mongla upazila in Bagerhat.
Twelve of the crew members managed to swim ashore.
Bashir Hossain, the owner of the cargo ship, the lighter ship was going to Nawapara Ghat in Jessore with 800 tons of coal loaded from a foreign commercial ship stationed at the Harbaria area of Mongla port.
On reaching the Kananagar area, the bottom of the lighter ship burst due to the impact of the fodder.
