Miscreants set fire to a classroom of Pachuria Government Primary School of Gior Upazila in Manikganj, during the blockade called by BNP-Jamaat allies.
The school’s Headmistress Moushumi Khan confirmed the incident to Dhaka Tribune on Thursday.
The school is located near the village house of former BNP General Secretary Khandkar Delwar Hossain Khan.
Headmistress Moushumi Khan said: “The nightguard of the school was sleeping in the next room around 4:30 am on Thursday morning. The miscreants started the arson. A few plastic chairs and festoons of the school burnt down in the fire. Besides, the walls of the school have gone discolored due to the black smoke. I have informed the upazila education officer. He said that he would make a general diary at the police station regarding this.”
In this regard, Upazila Education Officer Hasina Akhter Parveen said: “The headteacher of the school said that there was arson in the school. However, it was not confirmed who set the fire. The matter is under investigation.”
Gior Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Aminur Rahman said: “A police team has been dispatched to the scene upon receiving the news. If complaints are received, legal action will be taken after investigating the matter.”
Gior Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Aminul Islam also visited the spot.
