The students began the blockade in the Kotbari area of Comilla on Sunday afternoon

Update : 20 Sep 2026, 02:38 PM

Students of Comilla University and other educational institutions have withdrawn their blockade of the Dhaka-Chittagong highway after announcing a four-point list of demands, with traffic movement gradually returning to normal.

The students began the blockade in the Kotbari area of Comilla on Sunday afternoon, demanding justice for the murder of 13-year-old Ishayat Shahriar Opratim.

They cleared the highway around 12:30pm after holding a protest procession from the university’s main gate following Opratim’s namaz-e-janaza on campus.

The procession moved towards the Kotbari intersection, where the students blocked the Dhaka-Chittagong highway.

Their four demands are: the arrest of those involved in Opratim’s murder within 12 hours and a guarantee of a speedy trial; an acknowledgement of failure in handling the murder case from the Comilla superintendent of police and the police forces of Kotwali Model Police Station and Sadar Dakshin Police Station; the establishment of a permanent police outpost in the university area; and visible measures to improve the law and order situation in Comilla.
