A Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) inspector has been transferred to the Armed Police Battalion (APBn) in hill districts due to sharing a post on his Facebook about the passing of Jamaat-e-Islami leader Delawar Hossain Sayedee, a convicted war criminal.
Court Inspector Khairul Islam was transferred on Thursday on the orders of the police headquarters.
On August 14, Court inspector Khairul Islam posted his condolences on his Facebook account after Sayedee’s death. In the post, Khairul Islam sought prayers for Sayedee.
RMP Commissioner Biplob Bijoy Talukder ordered the Cyber Crime Unit to investigate the matter after Inspector Khairul's Facebook post came to light.
However, Inspector Khairul Islam deleted the post shortly after posting it.
Meanwhile, the Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of RMP's Cyber Crime Unit Utpal Kumar Chowdhury said a probe report has been submitted to the commissioner on Wednesday.
A police official, seeking anonymity, said the report mentioned that Inspector Khairul Islam tarnished RMP and Bangladesh Police’s image by posting about a convicted war criminal.
On Sunday, Delawar Hossain Sayedee, 83, was admitted to BSMMU. While receiving treatment, Sayedee passed away at 8:40pm on Monday, under the care of BSMMU Cardiology Department Chairman Professor Chowdhury Meshkat Ahmed.
Jamaat-Shibir leaders and activists on Tuesday morning carried out attacks and vandalism at BSMMU and Shahbagh intersection around the ambulance carrying Jamaat-e-Islami leader and convicted war criminal Delawar Hossain Sayedee.
