17 more detained over suspected militant links in Moulvibazar

At least 17 more people have been detained on suspicion of being militants in Moulvibazar's Kormodha union on Monday afternoon.

Kormodha Union Parishad Collector Salik Ahmed said: "The detainees have been kept in Karmadha union parishad's office."

Salik Ahmad said: "I received information on Sunday night about the presence of unidentified individuals in the hills. In response, local UP members and CNG powered auto-rickshaw drivers were notified. On Monday around 9am, the militants were spotted at the Asgharabad CNG stand. The drivers then tricked and transported them to Kormodha union parishad using five auto rickshaws."

Later, Kulaura police station was informed and the police took them into custody. 

Kormodha Union Parishad Member Md Abdul Matin said: "We received information that the detainees had been residing in the hills near the militant hideout in Tattuli village since the day of the operation. They began descending from Kala Pahar on Sunday afternoon."

"On Monday morning, they were arrested with the help of auto-rickshaw drivers.

They are currently detained at Kormodha Union Parishad Office. Police officers are in the office," he added. 

On Saturday, ten people were detained after conducting a raid on a suspected militant hideout in a remote hilly area under Kulaura thana of Moulvibazar. 

There were three children with them as well, CTTC chief Md Asaduzzaman said after the end of the operation, named Operation Hillside.

Law enforcers also recovered 2.5kg of explosives, 50 detonators, training manuals, commando boots and other training equipment, knives and other sharp weapons, Tk3.61 lakh in cash and gold ornaments from the hideout.
