Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu on Saturday said all involved in the killing of schoolteacher Ganapati Chakraborty and three members of his family in Rangpur will be identified and brought to justice.
“Everyone involved, including those behind the scenes, will be identified and brought under the law. The trial will be completed as quickly as possible,” he told journalists after laying the foundation stone for a six-storey building for the Burn and Plastic Surgery Unit at Rangpur Medical College Hospital.
Calling the killings “horrific and tragic,” Dulu said such a brutal incident had never occurred in Rangpur before. He said several theories had emerged surrounding the murders, making the investigation complex.
“We want to identify everyone involved. That is why the investigation is taking time. A crime of this magnitude cannot be uncovered within such a short period. However, we are working to identify the killers, masterminds and others involved and ensure a speedy trial,” he said.
Dulu assured that no innocent person would be implicated and only the actual perpetrators would face justice.
Regarding Rangpur Medical College Hospital, he said the government was working to resolve its longstanding problems and would ensure adequate ICU beds within a month. He alleged that corruption and misappropriation hindered development over the past 17 years.
Hospital director Brigadier General Ashikur Rahman and senior officials were present.
