An alarming 111 people have been hospitalized for treatment in Chittagong after contracting dengue in 24 hours to Sunday morning. This is the highest number of dengue patients admitted in one day this year in Chittagong.
According to sources from the civil surgeon's office, of the 111 patients, 46 were admitted to government hospitals, and 65 sought treatment in private hospitals. Currently, 158 dengue patients are under treatment in various hospitals.
So far this year, Chittagong has reported a total of 859 dengue cases, including 13 fatalities.
Chittagong District Civil Surgeon Office Health Coordinator Sujan Barua said a total of 295 people have been infected with dengue, and four have died in July alone.
“In June, 282 were infected, and six died. In May, 53 people were infected, 18 in April, 12 in March, 22 in February, and 77 in January, with three fatalities in total,” he said.
Among the infected, 412 are men, 252 are women, and 195 are children, he added.
Chittagong District Civil Surgeon Dr Elias Chowdhury said as the number of dengue patients continues to rise daily, necessary arrangements for treatment have been promptly put into place.
“Given that dengue is a mosquito-borne disease, it is absolutely critical to focus on eradicating mosquitoes for effective protection against the disease," he added.
