Bandarban’s Golden Buddha Monastery opens door to all

The ceremony was attended by a number of noted Buddhist leaders from different monasteries

The Golden Buddha Monastery in Bandarban has been opened to all on Saturday.

The monastery, located in the Lal Mohan Bahadur Bagan area of Bandarban Sadar upazila was opened via a religious ceremony. 

The ceremony was attended by a number of noted Buddhist leaders from different monasteries or viharas, and Bir Bahadur Ushwe Sing, minister of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs. 

The 57-foot-high Golden Buddha statue was built at a height of about 50 feet from the main road. It was built following various Buddhist monasteries in Thailand and Myanmar.

In addition to the statue, an array of other captivating structures have also been built, including, two lions, two dragons, two elephants, a serene pagoda, and a mesmerizing fountain.

Kimong Rakhine, who built the monastery, said that the work of the Golden Buddhist Temple in Bandarban is completely unique.

“I have built some beautiful structures, including towering Buddhist statues, beautiful gateways, gigantic elephants, dragons and lions statues, which are very beautiful to look at,” he added.

According to sources, the project incurred costs amounting to crores of taka.

These contributions included the private initiative of Bir Bahadur Ushwe Sing, the minister of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs, along with donations and support from local philanthropists, as well as the hill district council and the CHT Development Board.
