The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) says it has arrested five people following a raid on a suspected militant hideout in the northern district of Nilphamari on Saturday.
In a message to the media, the elite police unit said a team from Dhaka flew to the northern district by a helicopter early in the morning to raid the house at a village in Sonaray union near Nilphamari town.
Explosives and bomb-like objects were found at the house, said Assistant Director ANM Imran Khan of the RAB’s legal and media wing.
A bomb disposal unit from Rangpur has been called in and "efforts are currently on to defuse the explosives", UNB reported citing sources.
Members of Nilphamari police and the local unit of RAB had cordoned off the house since the early hours of Saturday.
The five people arrested have been identified as Ahidul Islam, Abdullah Al Mamun, Jahidul Islam, Noor Amin and Wahed Ali, Bangla Tribune reported citing local RAB official Mahmud Bashir Ahmed.
