The Anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU) of police has detained three members of a newly established militant outfit called "Tawheed Uluhiyyah Al-Zihadi" in separate operations across the country from Wednesday to Saturday.
"Upon receiving information, ATU teams conducted separate raids in the Bhashantek area of the capital, Joypurhat, and Bagerhat districts, resulting in their detention," ATU Superintendent of Police (Media) Mohammad Sanwar Hossain told BSS on Saturday.
The detained individuals have been identified as Jewel Mollah, 29, the son of Abdur Rashid Mollah from Diyapara village in Bagerhat; Ruhul Hosen, 21, the son of the late Ahraful Islam from Akkelpur thana area in Joypurhat; and Gaziul Islam, 40, the son of the late Moksed Ali from the same area
During the raid, ATU ASP Wahida Parvin reported the seizure of eight flags belonging to the group along with leaflets.
Jewel Mollah, who is also the founder and main leader of the militant group, was detained on September 13 in the Rampal area of Bagerhat.
The group had plans to carry out armed attacks in various locations across the country, and they recruited several youth members to facilitate their operations.
The ATU ASP said necessary legal action has been taken against the detainees.
