Militant organizations are intensifying their activities ahead of the upcoming parliamentary elections, said Additional Commissioner of Police and Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) Unit chief Md Asaduzzaman.
He told this during a briefing at Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) media centre on Sunday morning.
Md Asaduzzaman said that the CCTC has arrested five people including the nayeb-e-amir and his associates of the banned militant organization Ansar-Al-Islam from Jatrabari in the capital on Saturday evening.
Those arrested are Ehsanur Rahman alias Murad, 26, Md Sakhawatul Kabir alias Rafiq, 45, Bakhtiar Rahman alias Nazmul, 30, Yusuf Ali Sarkar, 31, and Jahedul Islam alias Ashraf, 35.
Two foreign pistols and 15 rounds of cartridges were seized from them.
According to Asaduzzaman, these individuals had convened at various locations in Dhaka with the intent of carrying out acts of sabotage. To evade detection, they had been resorting to organizational activities through encrypted mobile apps.
When interrogated about their activities and whereabouts within Dhaka, the arrested individuals diligently avoided answering the questions.
