Fire Service and Civil Defence personnel recovered the bodies of two college students from the Padma River on Sunday after they went gone missing whilst bathing in the river on Saturday.
The deceased were identified as Golam Sarowar, also known as Sayem, 17, the son of Saidur Rahman of the Meherchandi area in Rajshahi city, and his college mate Rifat Khandokar, 17, the son of Gazi Moin Uddin from the Dargapara area.
The process of handing over the bodies to their respective families is currently underway, said Ohidul Islam, deputy director of Rajshahi Fire Service and Civil Defence.

“Sayem's body was found around 6:30am approximately 50 yards from the location where they had gone missing while Rifat Khandokar's body was recovered around 12pm from the same area,” he added.
Rajshahi Metropolitan River Police Officer-in-Charge Shahriar Reza said both of them were class XI students of Rajshahi Cantonment Public School and College.
On Saturday morning, Sayem, Rifat and six others went to play football on the chars of Padma. After their game, they all decided to go for a swim in the river, during which Golam Sarowar and Rifat Khandokar went missing at 11am, the OC added.
