A couple was killed and three others including their daughter and grandson were injured as a pick-up hit an engine-run van on Dhaka-Khulna highway in Kaliganj upazila of Jhenaidah district on Tuesday morning.
The deceased were identified as Chhabdar Ali and his wife Parvina Begun, residents of Bishoykhali village of sadar upazila.
Iqbal Kabir, sub-inspector of Kaliganj police station, said that the accident took place in front of Mobarakganj sugar mill around 6am while the fish-laden pick-up hit the van, leaving Parvina dead on the spot and four others injured.
The injured were taken to upazila health complex.
As Chhabdar Ali's condition was critical, he was referred to Jessore 250-bed hospital. However, he died on the way to hospital.
The injured people are the couple's daughter Sathi Khatun, her minor son and van driver Abdul Karim.
The family met the tragic road crash while Chhabdar Ali along with his family members was going to Jessore to take his daughter to a doctor, said the SI.
