Around 50 shops were gutted in a massive fire at Thanchi market in Bandarban on Saturday morning.
The fire broke out around 8:30am and was brought under control after two and half hours of frantic efforts of Bangladesh Army and fire service, said Md Ismail Miah, substation officer of Bandarban fire service.
The fire originated from a tea stall and engulfed the adjoining shops.
At least 50 shops out of 100 shops gutted in the fire.
Being informed, two units of fire service rushed to the spot to bring the blaze under control, said the fire service official.
Dhaka TribuneThe reason behind the fire and the extent of the damage could not be known immediately.
The fire service sources said the fire might have originated from an oven.
Earlier on March 22, around 52 shops were gutted by fire at Bolibazar area in Bandarban's Thanchi upazila.
A massive fire razed 200 shops in the same area on April 27, 2020.
