Police on Friday night detained a madrasa teacher accused of torturing a student with a blade in Chittagong's Anwara upazila.
“The accused was arrested and sent to jail by the court after the student's mother filed a complaint,” said Mirza Mohammad Hasan, officer-in-charge (OC) of Anwara police station.
The accused, identified as Abu Hanif, 30, lives near the madrasa.
The twelve-year-old victim is a resident student at Anwara Upazila's Imam Azam (RA) International Hifzul Quran Academy. He hailed from the same upazila.
According to the complaint, the madrasah teacher Abu Hanif first beat the boy with a stick two weeks earlier for failing to learn properly.
Later, the teacher tortured the victim by scratching him with a blade in the back. When the student returned home from the madrasa last Thursday, he showed the wounds on his body and informed his family members about the incident.
“My younger brother had multiple stab wounds on his back. The teacher tortured my brother by putting pepper powder to the wound after scratching it with a blade,” the boy's elder brother claimed.
