The police have arrested a madrasa teacher on charges of raping a sixth-grader in Muradnagar upazila of Comilla.

Sajjad Hossain Saju, an assistant teacher at Sarmakanda Adarsha Dakhil Madrasa, was sent to jail through court on Friday following his arrest late on Thursday.

Muradnagar police station OC Kamruzzaman Talukder confirmed the matter.

The police and the student's family said Saju had been tutoring the 14-year-old and 11 others in maths and English since August.

Saying she was lagging behind in studies, Saju offered her private lessons at his home.

He raped her once at his home in September and again on October 21.

The rape survivor's mother filed a case in this connection at Muradnagar police station after she came to know about the matter.
