Probe body formed over death of Mymensingh woman pregnant with twins

A case has been filed against six people

A probe body has been formed over the death of a pregnant woman along with her twins in the womb, following kidney surgery at a private hospital in Mymensingh.

The four-member probe body has been asked to submit a report within seven working days.

In this regard, District Civil Surgeon Dr Nazrul Islam said legal actions will be taken after they receive the probe report. 

Meanwhile, the victim's husband, Mahbub Alam, filed a case against six people at Kotwali model police station on Friday night, said OC Shah Kamal Akand.

The accused in the case are Patient Care Hospital owner Mohammad Rafiq Mia, 35, Amit, 30, Dr Ashraful Haque Molla, 40, Dr Arif Rabbani, 31, Mehdi, 27, and Tarek Mia, 30.

Besides, around seven unknown people have been accused in the case.

According to the case statement, the deceased, Rekha Akhter, 25, wife of Mahbub Alam of the district's Trishal upazila, was 13 weeks pregnant.

Rekha was admitted to Patient Care Hospital for kidney-stone surgery on Thursday night. 

Rekha's condition deteriorated in the operation theatre after her kidney stones were removed. 

When Rekha did not wake up after the operation, the hospital authorities said it was because of the anesthesia they gave her. 

Later, she was forcefully sent to Chorkhai Community-Based Medical College Hospital in Mymensingh by Dr Ashraful Haque Molla and Dr Arif Rabbani. 

On the way, Rekha and her unborn twins died early Friday, the  Chorkhai Community-Based Medical College Hospital in Mymensingh confirmed. Later, when Rekha's family went back to Patient Care Hospital, the hospital authorities threatened to kill them. 

After that incident, the victim's family held a demonstration in front of the hospital along with her dead body.
