A Cox's Bazar court has convicted six Myanmar nationals and sentenced them to 10 years in prison in a case filed over smuggling yaba in 2018.
Cox's Bazar District Sessions and Judges Court Judge Mohammad Ismail gave the order on Wednesday after hearing the evidence in the case, Public Prosecutor Faridul Alam confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune.
The convicts are Chowna Barua, Lam Singh, Mong Sa, Chowna, Mong Chete, and Ua Nai. All of them were present in the court during the verdict.
Faridul Alam said On March 1, 2018, the Coast Guard apprehended 6 Myanmar nationals from the water near Saint Martin in Teknaf, with 300,000 yaba pills.
In this incident, Coast Guard Officer Khalilur Rahman filed a case with Teknaf police as the plaintiff.
