An Awami League leader died after falling ill on his way to a public meeting at Polo Grounds in Chittagong Sunday afternoon.
The deceased is Zahirul Islam Bacha, 47, son of late Dula Mia of Hashimpur union in Chandanish upazila. He was the vice president of Awami League of the union.
Chittagong Medical College Hospital police box in-charge Nur Ullah Ashek confirmed the information to Bangla Tribune.
Nur Ullah Ashek said that Zahirul Islam was brought to the hospital at noon. The emergency department doctor pronounced him dead after examination.
Those who brought him to the hospital said that Zahirul Islam fell ill in front of Shahjahan Hotel in Sadarghat area on his way to a public meeting from Chandnaish. He was already physically ill.
