A teenager died while another teen sustained injuries while hoisting an Argentina flag in Gafargaon upazila of Mymensingh on Saturday night.
The deceased is Md Shamim, 17, and the injured person is Sajjad, 19.
A municipal councillor, Aman Ullah Aman, citing locals and witnesses, said Shamim and Sajjad had climbed a utility pole to hoist the flag of their favourite football team, Argentina, ahead of the Fifa World Cup in Qatar.
At one point, they came in contact with an electric wire, fell down from the pole and got injured, Aman added.
Local residents then rushed them to the upazila health complex.
Shamim died on the way to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.
Sajjad, whose condition is critical, is undergoing treatment at the hospital.
Gafargaon police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Farooq Ahmed said the body was at the Mymensingh Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
No one had filed a complaint in connection with the incident, he said.
