A 10th-grade school student has died in Lakshmipur's Ramgati while trying to hoist the Argentina flag ahead of the Fifa World Cup.

The deceased was identified as Nabil Hossain, 17, son of Murad Hossain and a student of Bibirhat Rashidiya High School.

The incident took place at ward no 9 of Char Ramiz Union no 7 of the upazila around 8 am on Saturday.

Locals said Nabil was electrocuted while trying to hoist the flag of his favorite team, Argentina, on an electric pole. Later, when he was taken to Ramgati Upazila Health Complex, the duty doctor declared him dead.

Ramgati police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Alamgir Hossain said:  "This is a really tragic case. If the family has no objections, there won't be a problem with burial without autopsy as it was an accident.”

Sharaf Uddin Azad Sohail, chairman of the Ramgati Upazila Parishad, said: “Nabil was an extremely gifted student. His untimely passing leaves us inconsolably heartbroken. I'm at a loss for words when it comes to expressing my sympathies to his family.”

He also warned that everyone should be careful while hoisting the flag.

Nabil's passing has left his family, neighbors, and the community in sadness.
