A Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI) officer was killed and a Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) member was injured during a clash with drug peddlers in Bandarban's Tombru border area on Monday.
The martyred officer was a Bangladesh Air Force official, said a press release by Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
The shootout took place when the members of the DGFI and the RAB conducted a joint anti-drug drive in Tombru area.
On Monday, another Rohingya woman was killed while the RAB official was reportedly injured during an infighting between security forces and Rohingya insurgent groups in Konapara Rohingya camp, no man's land in Naikhyangchhari of Bandarban.
Officials from RAB-15 in Cox's Bazar conducted a raid at the border area on Monday evening to prevent smuggling, and the member was injured when the insurgent groups started firing at RAB officials, sources inside police said.
The injured RAB personnel, Sohel Barua, has been taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in critical condition on Tuesday.
He was flown to Dhaka from Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital at around 2:30am.
Mohammad Ashiqur Rahman, resident medical officer (RMO) of Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital said: “RAB member Sohel Barua, who sustained a serious head injury, was brought to the hospital's emergency department at around 9:45pm. He was bleeding.”
Sohel Barua is a member of RAB-15.
