The body of a passenger who died after a boat capsized in the Karatoa River in Boda upazila of Panchagarh in September has been recovered after 47 days of the incident.
The deceased is Joya Rani, 4, daughter of Dhirendranath of Ghatiarpara area of Panchagarh.
So far, 71 bodies have been recovered in this incident while one is still missing.
According to police and locals, a group of workers were picking up sand and stones near Aulia Ghat on Friday afternoon. At one point, a strong stench started coming from the stone pit. At this time, while removing the sand, Jaya's partially decayed body was found.
Local public representatives and police were informed. The relatives of the missing people rushed upon getting the news. They confirmed the body as Jaya's by looking at the clothes.
Later, administration and police officials handed over the body to her family in the presence of local public representatives.
Madea Bamanhat UP Chairman Rezaul Karim Shamim confirmed the matter adding that the body of Jaya was recovered from the same place Bhupendranath's body was recovered on Wednesday.
On September 25, an engine boat carrying over 100 Hindu devotees, heading for a temple on the other side of the Karatoa River to perform Mahalaya rituals, sank near Aulia Ghat under Mareya union of Boda upazila in Panchagarh.
