The BNP has yet to invite its political allies including Jamaat-e-Islam to its divisional rallies even though the party said it is planning to launch a mass uprising across the country through its latest movement.
With only two days to go ahead of the BNP's Faridpur divisional rally at Komorpur Abdul Aziz Institution ground, no affiliated parties have been invited to the mass gathering.
District Jamaat ameer Maulana Badruddin said: “Since, this is not an affiliate program therefore the issue of our invitation is not important here.”
BNP's other allies, Islami Oikya Jote and BJP, are in the same situation.
Earlier in April, the BNP decided that members of the 20-party alliance will no longer hold programs under the same banner, and instead organize individual events.
At the time, members of the BNP top brass said the decision was communicated to the Jamaat leadership, who had no objection. Leaders of other members of the alliance also appear to be in agreement.
Shama Obaid, organizing secretary of BNP and coordinator of Faridpur rally, said Faridpur rally is BNP's own organizational program.
She hoped that the Faridpur rally will also be successful, like the previous divisional rallies.
Alleging that law enforcement officers are not cooperating, she said the police detained 7 BNP leaders from Saltha-Nagarkanda and one from Mahanagar on Tuesday night. Police are continuously harassing and trying to intimidate them.
“The preparations for the rally are going on in full swing and the central leaders are visiting the ground every day. The stages are also being set up in the field,” she said.
