A Rohingya youth tried to commit suicide by lying on the road in front of the office of the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) in Cox's Bazar on Wednesday night.
At that time, there were five members of his family including his mother, wife, and children. Later UNHCR security guards, media workers and patrol police tried for half an hour to convince the young man and sent him to the Rohingya camp.
Rohingya youth Abul Osman came to the Cox's Bazar sub-office of the UNHCR to seek justice for deprivation in the camp and family disputes. He had an argument with the officials. At one point, the young man laid down on the road and also threatened to kill his family around 8pm.
The youth is the son of Ehsanul Haque, a resident of shed number 40 of E/Block of Kutupalong registered refugee camp in Ukhiya.
Osman alleged that the camp in-charge and police had been harassing them regularly due to family disputes. He also claimed that the family was deprived of the benefits a registered refugee is entitled to. He said the authorities took no action despite repeated requests.
Mohsin, the in-charge of security guards at the UNHCR office, said that they came out after talking to the seniors. At one point, the young man tried to commit suicide by lying on the road.
